With something like golf there are always wonders that occur behind the scenes to make the conditions as perfect as possible. My senior project this week especially has shown me how a golf course gets ready for the season. This mostly includes mornings of very hard work followed by afternoons of easy work or even sneaking in eighteen holes with some of the guys working there.
My first couple mornings were filled with the taxing jobs of putting down the water hazard stakes around the course as well as putting up the midway net at the driving range. Both are things that go almost unnoticed when playing golf but having done the job it gives you a whole new perspective on the game. Every time I see a red or yellow stake on a course I’ll remember when I had too spend two hours in the hot sun learning exactly where to put them. Every time I drive a ball into the net I’m going to think about the time I had too painstakingly clip in all four hundred rusty clips that hole the net up while getting eaten alive by mosquitos. The work I’ve done so far has definitely changed the way I look at a golf course and has improved my game and understanding of golf a lot more. I never really was too good at remembering the technical rules of golf, but now I can recite every option you have when you hit into either a red or yellow hazard. I even know the difference between the two know and it’s helped me a lot in matches where I usually would have to rely on my opponents for a ruling.
The afternoons of playing golf have been amazing and honestly it has elevated my game too a new level. Playing eighteen in a cart daily for two hours in my opinion is the best way to practice golf. I get to take multiple different shots to practice different different situations as well as different swings. On a golf course shots are very unique and must be practiced often to master. I just love playing golf in general and this project has really given time the opportunity to play and learn about the game In ways I never had before.
